The Big Conversation
A COMMUNITY is being invited to have its say on future town priorities.Rhyl Town Council is to host a series of public events as it seeks to develop areas of focus for the future.
Over the last few months, the council has worked on developing a new set of priorities to best support the town. Residents and businesses will now be asked to help rank the council’s themes according to what matters most to them and put forward ideas to potentially help set the new course during a series of engagement sessions called The Big Conversation.
Town Clerk Helen Mead said: “We know too well there are challenges within the town and have been looking at where we can best place our future efforts and resources. We need to focus on the key issues that matter most to the people living, working, or running an organisation in Rhyl but we can only get to the heart of that by listening to what people have to say.
“Although mindful that the community has been asked to give its voice to a few consultations in recent times, we are launching The Big Conversation and will be out and about throughout Rhyl, encouraging as many people as possible to chat to us to share their vision and ideas. We need to meet Rhyl where it is today and then work to support, enrich and reinvigorate our town and its residents. Our future plans need to belong to everyone.”
The council’s four key areas of focus are social cohesion, town centre and events, community engagement and communications and environment, health, and wellbeing. People will be asked to rank the priorities in order of importance to them. There will also be an opportunity to share ideas for projects to help the council set and meet its new objectives.
“Town council powers are different from county authorities, and there is a degree of limitation, but we can still support services and organisations, amplify concerns or champion projects. These series of conversations will be important as they will help direct the council’s focus and enable us to decide on future projects which we will then share publicly. This is a valuable opportunity for people to have their say and our message is clear: we are here and listening,” added Helen.
Sessions are being held at locations around town, and people are invited to drop in and chat.
Tuesday September 1st: 10:00am - 2.30pm: Brighter Futures, Wellington Road
Wednesday September 2nd: 9.30am - 12.30pm: High Street, promenade and Marina Quay
Thursday September 3rd: 10.30am - 2:00pm: Queen’s Market
Friday September 4th: 2:00pm - 4:00pm: High Street and promenade and Vale Road/Rhuddlan Road
Saturday September 5th: 10.30am - 12.30pm: Marina Quay
